In 2006 New York State passed a law allowing physical therapists with 3 years practical experience to evaluate and treat patients without a prescription. This allows a person to "walk in" and see a physical therapist without having to see your doctor first, thus speeding up the delivery of care and costing the patient less money.
Direct Access allows for 10 visits or 30 calendar days, whichever occurs first, before a referral from your physician is required. We will then forward your therapy notes to your doctor and assist in obtaining a referral to continue physical therapy services if needed.
Please note that some insurance plans will not cover physical therapy services without a referral from your doctor. If you wish we can contact your health insurance to verify if coverage is available. If you do not have health insurance you may still obtain services with direct access. If you have further questions please contact us.
